2026 Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM)

ONLY PRESENTERS WHO ATTEND THE ASM WILL BE ISSUED WITH CERTIFICATES. THESE WILL BE EMAILED AFTER THE EVENT AND THE WORDING CANNOT BE CHANGED. ONE CERTIFICATE PER ABSTRACT WILL BE ISSUED.

The ALRSGBI Annual Scientific Meeting 2026 invites researchers, clinicians, industry partners and all professionals in the field of minimally invasive, laparoscopic and robotic surgery to submit high‑quality work for presentation. The ASM provides a national platform for sharing innovation, best practice and evidence that advances patient care and surgical outcomes.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES & AWARDS

Abstracts are invited from Consultant and Trainee surgeons, Laparoscopic Theatre Staff and Industry. ALRSGBI operates a paperless electronic abstract submission process via Oxford Abstracts. Submission of previously accepted or presented work is welcomed.

Abstract Structure

Abstracts must consist of five paragraphs, with a maximum total word count of 500 words:
1) Aims (up to 100 words)
2) Methods (up to 100 words)
3) Results (up to 100 words)
4) Conclusion (up to 100 words)
5) Key Statement (up to 100 words)

Formatting Requirements

  • Abstracts must be submitted as text and tables only (no figures, graphs or diagrams)
    • Font: Arial, size 11
    • Maximum of five authors
    • Abstracts are marked anonymously and must not include institutional identifiers

Presentation Categories

Abstracts must be submitted online to be considered for:
• Oral presentations (Free Papers)
• Poster presentations
• Video presentations

Case reports will only be considered for poster presentations.

ORAL PRESENTATIONS (FREE PAPERS) BJS Prize Session

Selected Free Paper presentations will take place during the 2026 ALSGBI Annual Scientific Meeting.

Oral presentations will be seven minutes in duration, followed by three minutes of discussion.

Presenters will be required to submit their PowerPoint presentation in advance and to register for the ASM.

The best oral abstract will be named as the BJS Prize winner and presented with the David Dunn Medal, together with a certificate and a cash prize. Eligibility criteria will be confirmed in the ASM programme.

POSTER EXHIBITION & PRESENTATIONS

The Poster Exhibition will take place throughout the ASM within the Industry Exhibition area.

Posters will be displayed on electronic poster monitors. A PDF of each poster, saved from a PowerPoint slide in portrait orientation (9:16 ratio), must be submitted by the published deadline.

A selection of posters will be designated as Posters of Distinction and may also be displayed as printed fabric posters. Presenters of shortlisted posters will be expected to attend their poster session and answer questions from the judging panel.

The Best Laparoscopic / Robotic Poster Prize will be announced at the ALRSGBI Awards Ceremony and will include a certificate and cash prize.

VIDEO PRESENTATIONS

Shortlisted videos will be presented in the Videos of Distinction session during the ASM.

Videos must be submitted as part of the abstract submission process and provided via WeTransfer by the stated deadline. Videos should be a maximum of five minutes in duration, with voiceover compulsory and in‑house production only.

The Best Laparoscopic / Robotic Video Prize will be awarded during the ALRSGBI Awards Ceremony and will include a certificate and cash prize.

AUDIO VISUAL INFORMATION

All oral, poster and video presentations must be prepared using PowerPoint. Presenters will be required to submit an advance copy and to bring a backup copy to the meeting.

Certificates of Presentation will only be issued to presenters listed on the abstract submission, one certificate per abstract.

REGISTRATION

All presenters of papers, posters and videos must register for the 2026 ALRSGBI Annual Scientific Meeting by the published deadline.
