Inaugural Annual Report of the British Hernia Society Registry

The Association of Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ALRSGBI) congratulates the British Hernia Society (BHS) on the publication of the Inaugural Annual Report of the British Hernia Society Registry (BHSR), an important milestone in advancing quality assurance, outcomes reporting, and patient-centred care in hernia surgery across the UK and Ireland. Key Highlights

  • The Registry has recorded 2,262 hernia repairs from more than 230 surgeons across 55 organisations and over 60 hospitals during its first 14 months of operation
  • A 47% patient-reported outcome measure (PROMs) response rate has been achieved, demonstrating strong patient engagement and providing valuable insights into quality of life and recovery after surgery.
  • Across all hernia types, 97.2% of procedures were completed without intraoperative complications, with low overall readmission rates and high patient satisfaction.
  • The Registry incorporates both clinical outcomes and PROMs, supporting a modern, patient-centred approach to benchmarking, research, and quality improvement
